Did you know:
- Ooray (Davidson Plum) is native to the tropical rainforests of Eastern Australia. The fruit grows directly out of the trunk of the tree rather than from the branches[1].
- The ‘Davidson’ mentioned in the European name was a sugar cane grower in Central Queensland in the 1860s on whose land the fruit was first ‘discovered’ by Europeans. Since he is now known to have committed atrocities towards the local First Nations People and used abducted Polynesian people as slave labour on his plantations[2], we prefer to use the term Ooray, a rough translation of the name given to the fruit by some of the First Nations groups in Far North Queensland[3].
