Description
Did you know:
- Lemon Myrtle is often said to be ‘more lemony than lemons[1]’ because of its incredibly high citral content (the chemical that gives us the lemony taste and scent). It has a much higher concentration of citral than any other ‘lemon’ plant (lemon verbena, lemon thyme, etc.)[2]
- Lemon myrtle is a flowering plant native to the subtropical rainforests of Queensland. They typically grow 6-8 metres tall[3], but you can grow them in parts of South Australia, but they will be a lot smaller. Our Proof of Pie lemon myrtle plant is 12 years old and is only 1m tall.
- The First Australians used lemon myrtle to relieve headaches by crushing the leaves and inhaling them, as well as in pastes to heal cuts[4].
